Manchester United teenager’s performance praised, he has chance to step in for former £59.7m star

Alejandro Garnacho could have a big opportunity for Argentina over the upcoming international break.

Argentina play World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru, and Alejandro Garnacho could have a chance to start.

This is due to the absence of a player Manchester United once spent £59.7 million on, Angel di Maria, who misses out on the squad due to a muscle injury sustained playing for Benfica in the Champions League.

According to BolaVIP, Alejandro Garnacho is one of two players being considered to start in Di Maria’s place, along with Fiorentina’s Nicolas Gonzalez.

Alejandro Garnacho hopes for first Argentina start

Alejandro Garnacho has made three appearances for Argentina to date, each time has come as a substitute. The 19-year-old is hoping for his first start.

His competition, Nicolas Gonzalez, may have the inside track. The 25-year-old has 26 international caps already.

He has been in great form for Fiorentina this season with five goals in seven games, however, the path for Garnacho is certainly clearer with Di Maria absent.

Garnacho contribution praised

Garnacho came off the bench in Manchester United’s comeback win over Brentford, playing a key role in Scott McTominay’s equaliser.

His performance was praised via BolaVIP, which wrote Garnacho ‘is at a high level at Manchester United, where he was fundamental after his introduction against Brentford’.

The teenager scored his first goal of the season in the Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace, and has been unlucky to revert back to his substitute role since.

Seeing as he is not a regular starter at club level, it’s a big ask for Garnacho so start for his country, but he’s in the mix, and if he gets an opportunity, he will have to take it.
