Ronald de Boer talks up Gakpo

Former Ajax star and Champions League winner, Ronald de Boer has been talking about why he believes Gakpo is special.

He told Sky Sports: “Gakpo himself, he’s a great quality youngster. He has speed, which is important nowadays, and dribbling.

“But most importantly he has a great shot, he’s directly to the goal and he finds the net quite easily.

“I think he’s a great person. Very down to earth and I love him as a football player and as a person.”

Gakpo scored the Netherlands’ first goal in their win over Qatar on Tuesday, becoming the first player at the 2022 World Cup to score in three consecutive games.

He is also the first Dutch player ever to score in his first three World Cup matches, a remarkable achievement considering the legends who have performed for the Oranje through their history.

The knockout rounds await, where Gakpo could add to his admirers, and further drive the part home that Manchester United need to sign him.
