Manchester United summer signing looked ‘rusty’ and ‘wasn’t sharp enough’ vs Fulham

Manchester United emerged 1-0 victors at Craven Cottage against Fulham.

Erik ten Hag will be pleased with the result, but not too happy with the performance. Manchester United were rather lacklustre again but were saved by a late Bruno Fernandes strike.

There were a few other good performers. Harry Maguire was immense, as was Scott McTominay and Andre Onana continued his United resurgence.

But one summer signing struggled to make an impact once again, which led to some harsh player ratings from publications.

Rasmus Hojlund struggled vs Fulham

Ten Hag’s summer signing Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t had the best start to life in the Premier League. Following the game at Fulham, he’s now played eight games and has failed to find the net once.

Particularly against Fulham, he struggled to make any impact on the game – which has led to some harsh criticism from media outlets.

Easily marshalled by Tim Ream and Calvin Bassey. Ill-suited to United’s stodgy approach and rusty on the rare occasion he got the ball.

Didn’t get on the ball. Not a single chance. Hold-up play wasn’t sharp enough.

Struggled when the service wasn’t particularly good. Frustrated to be taken off for Anthony Martial but he wasn’t serving the goods.

Not his finest performance, but should Manchester United fans be worried after his slow start to life in the Premier League?

Hojlund is not a worry at the moment

Despite not firing in the league, there is no need to worry yet about Hojlund.

He has shown he can score goals in the Champions League and to be quite honest – his lack of goals is definitely not just his issue.

He has had little to no service in any of the fixtures. At the end of the day, you can’t score goals if no one is assisting you.

United have struggled for goals in general, and a lot comes down to the wingers, to be frank. They have been nothing short of dreadful this season.

It really isn’t surprising that Hojlund hasn’t scored in the league yet. At 21 years old, it’s far too much pressure on the young man to lead the line anyway.

Hojlund will come good. There’s little need to judge his goalscoring record at this early stage of his Manchester United career.
