Lisandro Martinez has quickly established himself as a fan favourite at Manchester United. He has also become the most-loved teammate too.

The highly admired defender is said to be the one player Manchester United’s stars battle to have on their team in training sessions.

ESPN report: “Martinez is the player everyone wants on their team for the small-sided games at the end of training and is furious afterwards if he doesn’t win.

“When he flies into challenges, other players will respond with shouts of “the butcher”.”

Martinez has also won over his teammates off the pitch with his character. He is said to be particularly mindful that no player is isolated or feeling down, going to extra efforts to ensure total inclusion within the squad.

It is clear to see from watching Martinez, how highly he is regarded by his peers, from the way they celebrate together when stopping an attack, to the togetherness at the end of games.

Erik ten Hag pushed hard to sign Martinez in the summer, landing him from Ajax after a lengthy pursuit, which left some wondering if United had overpaid.

If anything, it seems like the club have secured a bargain. His performances at the World Cup have served to underline his quality.

He has helped Manchester United to keep five Premier League clean sheets this season, plus a further four in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag has selected him to start nearly every game, and his performances have shown why he is reluctant to be without him.

A big 2023 awaits, and while it is great to see Martinez starring for Argentina, there’s nothing quite like seeing him in a Manchester United shirt – and his teammates will agree.
