Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is casting his eye a long way into the future.

The saying often uttered by football players is that they are looking no further than the ‘next game’.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is making an exception.

Excitement is building in Portugal after they were named joint hosts for the 2030 World Cup.

Bruno Fernandes dreams of World Cup 2030

FIFA announced last week there will be six nations involved in the hosting of the 2030 World Cup.

The tournament will be mainly held by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, however, in a nod to the tournament’s centenary year, three opening games will be held in South America, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, BBC Sport report.

It is a tournament to really look forward to for the various host nations, and it is a big talking point in Bruno Fernandes’ Portugal.

Fernandes, 29, will be 35 at the time the tournament is held in summer 2030. There is a real chance he is still involved. Luka Modric starred at the last World Cup at the age of 37.

However, Fernandes admits it won’t be easy to maintain his spot as there is so much competition and talent coming through in Portugal.

He told RTP: “A place is getting more and more expensive. Increasingly, clubs are investing in youth teams, so that more players come [to the national team]. At that time [of the 2030 World Cup] it will be even more expensive, but, if I’m fit, and I’m at a level that is the minimum acceptable to be here, I hope to be here.

“Representing the national team in a major competition and in the country itself is very special. I hope to be present.”

Portugal can book their place at Euro 2024 tonight with a victory over Slovakia which would seal qualification.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo be at World Cup 2030

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo will be desperate to be involved in a World Cup in his homeland. And it is certain he will be involved somehow.

Will it be as a player? That’s a long shot. Cristiano Ronaldo is still part of the Portugal team heading to Euro 2024, but by time World Cup 2026 comes around he will be 41.

You might consider Ronaldo could perhaps stretch out his career to make that one. World Cup 2030 he will be 45. It’s not impossible – but it is highly unlikely he would play at the tournament.

You can be sure though, that Ronaldo will do everything in his power to try and make it happen.
