Manchester United set to lose race to sign wonderkid Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United look set to lose the race to sign RB Salzburg wonderkid Benjamin Sesko with the Slovenian set to join Leipzig in 2023.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old will join the Bundesliga giants that also form part of the Red Bull Group next summer.

The striker who has become one of the most sought after teenagers in European football had been on Manchester United’s radar, but it looks like Erik ten Hag’s side will miss out on the 12-time Slovenia international, who The Mail reported Salzburg did not want to sell for less than £55 million.

Prior to yesterday’s 2-1 opening day defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, which was Ten Hag’s first game in the Premier League, the Reds were linked with a move for former Stoke City and West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic – who currently plies his trade for Serie A side Bologna.

United’s interest in the 33-year-old Austrian may have been a direct result of Sesko opting to join Leipzig over the twenty-time league champions.

Missing out on Sesko is yet another blow in Ten Hag’s plans to rebuild a Manchester United side that desperately needs quality reinforcements.

The former Ajax manager has had to become accustomed to setbacks in his first transfer window at the helm and with his priority target Frenkie de Jong no closer to following him to Old Trafford – the panic stations look to be kicking in with 24 days of the summer transfer window remaining.

Sesko, who already has two goals to his name this season, will spend another season with the Austrian giants before making the move to Germany.

The teenager’s career path looks to be following a similar path to former Salzburg star Erling Haaland who scored two goals on his Premier League debut for Manchester City yesterday.

Manchester United missed out on the Norwegian superstar during his time with Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, and we look to have missed out on another burgeoning talent in Sesko.
