Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper is continuing, with different options being considered.
Earlier this week Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer was named as a target by Swiss outlet Blick.
Sommer is the German side’s number one and has previously been talked up by Peter Schmeichel.
Now a report from The Sun claims United sent scouts to watch Sommer keep a clean sheet in ‘Gladbach’s 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Friday night.

Tim Krul also considered
The problem for United is Sommer is good enough to be number one. If he is going to be allowed to compete fairly with David de Gea, it could be possible to convince him.
But if he is told he is going to be a back-up, then it won’t be enough, with Sommer eyeing his World Cup place with Switzerland.
United are then also looking at alternative options, with The Sun naming Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul as a player the club are considering.
Krul, 34, is a very capable goalkeeper who while he is long past his best, should be capable of playing the number two role.
Whether he is much of an upgrade on Tom Heaton is open to debate. It doesn’t necessarily feel like he is, although he was part of the recent Netherlands international squad. But the whole strategy of signing another veteran back-up seems odd.
United need a player who can displace De Gea, now or long into the future – although Dean Henderson isn’t out the door yet.
Henderson is impressing on loan at Forest and is on a long-term contract to 2025. United may see a stop-gap player like Krul as an option which won’t necessarily block his chances long-term.
