Manchester United said to have walked away from Daniel Bachmann move

Manchester United are moving on from interest in Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, The Mail report.

Fabrizio Romano reported last week that talks were being held with the Hornets to bring the Austrian stopper on board.

However, a move appears to be off, with The Mail reporting United have been unable to agree a fee for the players.

The report says: “They were interested in Watford’s Daniel Bachmann, but Watford, justifiably, wanted a fee for a player with two years left on his contract and United were unwilling to pay what the Championship side wanted.”

United said to have walked away from Daniel Bachmann move

United are set to loan out Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest, leaving the club with only Tom Heaton to back-up David de Gea.

Talksport report Nathan Bishop is expected to join Wycombe Wanderers on loan, with United preferring the young prospect to get regular football under his belt rather than sitting as third choice.

It is very possible Czech under-21 international Matej Kovar could be sent out on loan too, leaving United likely to pursue a veteran back-up, with Lee Grant retired.

Bachmann is an Austrian international who was one of the best performing goalkeepers in the Championship in 20/21, but played only 12 games at Watford in the Premier League last season.

United were right to look at an extra back-up goalkeeper, while at the same time, being sensible only to spend carefully on it.

The Red Devils could easily afford whatever Watford were demanding, but a third choice goalkeeper should not cost United more than £2-3 million, based on his need to the team, and it is likely United could find one who is a free agent.

Sam Johnstone is a player who had been touted for a Red Devils return, but The Mail report he is set to set with Crystal Palace.

If United have little luck elsewhere, Watford drop their asking price, or don’t like any of the options available, then it is possible a move for Bachmann is revisited. For now, the move appears to be off.
