Manchester United reportedly set for pre-season friendly with Wrexham

Manchester United have provisionally agreed a pre-season friendly to face non-league outfit Wrexham as part of the 2023 USA tour.

The Telegraph report that the Welsh side owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have their eyes on a high-profile summer meeting with United.

We have been invited, as well as Chelsea, to face the National League side, who will hope to be promoted to League 2 by the time we are due to play them.

The report says that our fixture with them has not been 100 per cent sorted yet but there is optimism it will go ahead.

Manchester United set to face Wrexham in USA during pre-season 2023

Wrexham have invited United to play at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, with United going to the States on tour for the first time since 2018.

An exact scheduled date for the game is not specified, but it says the invitation is for a week later than Chelsea’s game on July 19.

That would make it July 26, with United’s other pre-season plans yet to become clear in Ten Hag’s second summer in charge.

United faced Wrexham in a friendly last summer, but it was a far lower profile affair than the fixture being planned for 2023.

The Mail reported at the time that Ten Hag called on Kobbie Mainoo to play the second half as a replacement for Christian Eriksen.

That match with Wrexham was played behind closed doors so there was no footage, either in terms of live coverage or highlights.

The Red Devils won 4-1, with Christian Eriksen scoring the first, while United added three goals in the second half through Alejandro Garnacho, Alex Telles, and substitute Amad.
