Manchester United’s match with Real Sociedad will go ahead as planned despite the death of The Queen.
United released a statement in reaction to the news emerging from Buckingham Palace.
The Red Devils are due to kick off the Europa League fixture against La Liga side Real Sociedad at Old Trafford at 8pm.
United have confirmed the match goes ahead, stating: “Following direction from the FA and UEFA, tonight’s UEFA Europa League fixture against Real Sociedad will take place as planned at Old Trafford.”

Minute’s silence for The Queen
A minute’s silence will take place at Old Trafford before kick-off a 8pm for supporters and players to observe.
The players will also wear black armbands in tribute to The Queen.
United’s heartfelt statement read: “Manchester United shares the sorrow of the entire nation following the announcement from Buckingham Palace on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.The club recognises her immense contribution to public life, including sport, both here in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth, and around the world.
“Everyone connected with Manchester United joins the wider football family in sending our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to The Royal Family.”
United have also confirmed the team’s line-up for tonight’s fixture, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire returning to the starting line-up.
Journalist Henry Winter has suggested via Twitter that there could be Premier League fixtures postponed this weekend in relation to The Queen’s death. United are due to play away to Crystal Palace.
No statement has yet been issued by the Premier League in relation to the weekend’s games.
