Manchester United reignite interest in Watford forward Ismaila Sarr

Manchester United have reignited their interest in signing Watford forward Ismaila Sarr, according to 90min.

According to the Athletic, the Red Devils have ended their pursuit of Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic.

But having been priced out of a move for Erik ten Hag‘s first-choice forward target Antony by the 52-year-old’s former club Ajax, and having missed out on Slovenian wonderkid Benjamin Sesko – Manchester United look to be scrambling for attacking reinforcements.

The Brazilian international, who Ten Hag brought to Amsterdam via Sau Paulo, like Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong was one of the Dutchman’s key targets this summer.

But there is a growing possibility that United don’t land either of the pair with just three weeks of the transfer window remaining.

Sesko, who is one of the most sought after teenagers on the planet, has opted to join Red Bull Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig next summer.

After abandoning our pursuit of the Austrian Arnautovic, 90min report: “United will now look at other attacking options on the market, and one player they are considering is Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.”

United considered moving for the Senegalese winger in the summer of 2020 as an alternative to Jadon Sancho as Borussia Dortmund didn’t budge on their asking price for the England international.

But the Hornets wanted £40m for their club-record signing from Rennes and United walked away from the deal.

The 24-year-old, who has two years left to run on his contract at Vicarage Road, has had an eventful start to the 2022-23 Championship campaign.

He registered an assist in Rob Edwards’ first game in charge of Watford, which was a 1-0 home win against Sheffield United.

Watford’s number 23 opened his account for the season in spectacular fashion last night – scoring from his own half in the 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion.

However, Baggies stopper David Button got his revenge on Sarr by saving the African Cup of Nations winner’s penalty.

Sarr scored five goals in the Premier League last season, one of which came in Watford’s 4-1 home win against Manchester United in November, which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer get sacked.

Sarr, who will be hoping to secure a move away from Watford before the transfer window closes, scored 13 goals and provided ten assists during his last season in the second tier of English football.
