Manchester United reach 'full agreement' to sign Brighton prospect Toby Collyer

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign youngster Toby Collyer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 18-year-old has already captained England at youth level and has been dubbed as one of the best young central midfielders in the country.

Transfer expert Romano has seemingly confirmed the news that was circulating on social media.

Despite Collyer’s burgeoning reputation, he has received next to no game time for the Seagulls so far this campaign.

The teenager has been restricted to just one appearance in the under-18 Premier League which was a 45 minute run out against Leicester City back in August. He hasn’t featured in a matchday squad since.

It’s a complete contrast to the volume of game time Collyer received in the last campaign.

It could well be that the Seagulls were anticipating that Collyer was going to be signed from a big club and therefore planned for life without him.

But last season he made 25 appearances in total across the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2.

The youngster also made the bench for an EFL Trophy fixture against AFC Wimbledon, which the League One side won 2-0.

Collyer made his England under-16s debut against Denmark in 2019 when being given the chance by Justin Cochrane, who is now Manchester United’s head of player development and coaching at academy level.

He also played in all three matches which saw England win the UEFA Development Tournament in 2020.

The Brighton prospect started in the final, which the Young Lions won 3-1 against Spain.
