Manchester United players react to Dean Henderson's loan move to Nottingham Forest

Manchester United players have reacted to Dean Henderson’s loan move to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old’s season-long loan move to the City Ground was confirmed yesterday and Henderson will be hoping to have a fruitful campaign under Steve Cooper.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the one-time England international will be hoping to impress Gareth Southgate in the opening months of the campaign and secure a place in England’s 26-man squad.

After pulling out of England’s European Championship squad last summer with a hip injury, Henderson’s preparation for the season was then curtailed after struggling with the aftereffects of testing positive for Covid-19.

By the time the academy graduate was fit to return to the first-team fold, David de Gea had rediscovered his best form and re-established himself as the club’s undisputed number one.

Henderson, who impressed in the Premier League during his season-long loan with Sheffield United in 2019-20, only made three first team appearances for the Red Devils last season, none of which came in the Premier League.

It was a frustrating campaign for the stopper especially given he made 25 starts during the 2020-21 season.

Erik ten Hag’s side will be hoping that Henderson has similar success on the River Trent to that of James Garner.

The England Under-21 international played a starring role in helping Forest return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

The midfielder will now return to United in pre-season with the aim of impressing the former Ajax manager and proving he has a role to play in United’s maiden campaign under the 52-year-old.

Henderson has spoken about his delight in securing the move to the two-time European Cup champions and some of his United teammates have wished him well ahead of his new venture.

Henderson’s aims this season will likely be to force his way into Southgate’s thinking, help keep Forest in the Premier League and catch Ten Hag’s eye ahead of returning next summer.
