Manchester United players have noticed a real change in Erik ten Hag’s training sessions amid a rise in fitness work.

Manchester United are back in action this evening, travelling to Denmark to take on Copenhagen in the Champions League.

United narrowly won the meeting between the two sides at Old Trafford, with Andre Onana producing a major injury-time penalty save.

That wasn’t a convincing performance from United and fans are looking for a real improvement as Erik ten Hag takes his side on the road.

The Independent now report that United players have spotted a real change in Ten Hag’s training sessions.

It’s stated that Ten Hag has been pushing a ‘conspicuous’ amount of fitness work during a difficult run.

United have been having to juggle Premier League, League Cup and Champions League action in recent weeks.

Ten Hag has seemingly decided to go through more fitness work, believing that will help United get through so many fixtures.

United need to be ready for battle, especially in the Champions League, and this extra fitness work is seen as a way to improve the squad’s durability.

Manchester United can’t keep relying on moments

We can understand this approach to an extent, but United just don’t look at full-tilt tactically.

It’s hard to see what Ten Hag is trying to do from a tactical approach, with United seemingly going backwards from last season.

In too many games, we are seeing United rely on moments; Scott McTominay’s late brace against Brentford, Onana’s penalty save against Copenhagen, Bruno Fernandes’ winner against Fulham on Saturday.

United being able to produce these moments is great, but fans would rather see a consistent tactical approach and some genuine progress as a team.

Maybe we will see United improve in that regard moving forward, with this fitness-heavy focus unlikely to last forever.
