Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot broke the deadlock in the FA Cup third round over Wigan.
All season it has been a struggled for goals for Manchester United. When the forward players frequently fail to score, it has been the defeners who bail them out.
All the way back to the opening game, Raphael Varane‘s winner against Wolves. Harry Maguire‘s winner against Copenhagen. And Diogo Dalot‘s winner away at Sheffield United.
Diogo Dalot struck his second goal of the season last night, with a curling low effort which put United a goal up against Wigan, before Bruno Fernandes bagged another in the second half, to secure a 2-0 win.

Diogo Dalot praised
Diogo Dalot also scored an impressive goal agains Borussia Dortmund in pre-season, and he is becoming a useful asset for the team, in multiple ways.
He was filling in at left-back once again, with Luke Shaw missing. But Dalot ensured he was not missed in this game.
His goal was praised on MUTV, with former star David May commenting: “It’s a great finish, a little bit of class. He’s done it a few times. You know he’s got that available.”
Wes Brown also praised his willingness to shoot. He said: “He’s got great technique if he’s anywhere near the box he gets his shots off.
“He didn’t let anyone down today, he got his goal and he defended well, you don’t need to do any more than that.”
Dalot completed 96 per cent of his passes, 48 from 50 attempts, completing three dribbles too, more than any player on the pitch.
It was against lower league opposition, but it was still a very strong performance from the Portugal international.

Dalot says game was not easy
While Manchester United made the win look straightforward, Diogo Dalot disagrees with assertions it was easy.
He told club media: “Today, we had the first step, a first opportunity, with the tough pitch and a tough game. These types of games are difficult if you don’t get the right approach, and don’t do the right things.
“but we did it today and we showed some character and a good performance. We’re happy.”
