Manchester United planning to pay Anthony Martial to leave
Anthony Martial is now the enigma Manchester United reportedly have no desire to solve.
Despite a lack of striker options in 2022 once Edinson Cavani leaves, Martial is unlikely to play a part.
United are plotting a radical solution to get high earner Martial off the books.
The Sun report United are ready to pay Martial a lump sum of £12 million to leave the club.

Martial is on extortionately high wages at United of almost £250,000 per week.
He would be entitled to £25 million from United over the last two years of his contract to 2024.
So the Frenchman could stubbornly sit it out, and collect the money he signed up for, whether he is involved with the first team or not.
United hope to save cash by convincing Martial to agree a pay off and take half of what he is entitled to.
A similar tactic worked to get Alexis Sanchez off the books.
Clubs are going to be put off buying Martial due to his wages. No club will match United’s salary.
But he should be interested in actually playing football and getting his career on track, after a frustrating two years.
United can still get a transfer fee, to potentially offset the payout on his wages. But without Martial agreeing to take a salary reduction or payout, there simply is no transfer fee, and he would remain a problem on the club’s books.
Martial scored 23 goals in 2019/20, but has scored just nine goals in the two seasons since, including just one on his Sevilla loan spell.
His loan has not exactly put him in the shop window, and United have a tough task to offload him, so are being forced to look at radical solutions.
This week we named Martial as one of the seven players at United who are most difficult to sell.
The Sun report Martial is not keen to return to Manchester, which should work in United’s favour.
It is possible new boss Erik ten Hag wants to take a look at him, but when he looks at footage, he may have seen enough.
United’s proposed option to shift Martial will be on the table, to hopefully convince him to accept an offer which comes in.
