Manchester United have been urged to move quickly to sign Marcel Sabitzer or risk losing him to bitter rivals Liverpool.

Marcel Sabitzer is currently in limbo after his loan spell at Manchester United expired on June 30.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bayern Munich are open to offers between £10-15 million from clubs who want to sign Sabitzer on a permanent basis.

As it stands, Sabitzer will report to pre-season training as a Bayern player later this month.

Manchester United urged to sign Marcel Sabitzer

Former Premier League striker Stan Collymore has urged Manchester United to sign Sabitzer up on a permanent basis.

And he warns that if United do not, that Sabitzer could end the summer as a Liverpool player.

He told Caught Offside: “There have been recent reports that the Bavarians are happy for the Austrian to leave permanently for a fee of just €15m – if that is true, I cannot believe United haven’t snapped their hand off already.

“If they’re not going to take Bayern Munich up on it, I wonder if Klopp will think about it. He’s proven he can play in the Premier League and that fee is almost too good to turn down, especially when it’s senior international-level midfielders you’re in the market for.”

Manchester United would not like to see Sabitzer wearing Liverpool red, and as a loan player, he is unlikely to have enough loyalty towards the Red Devils to turn down a move to Anfield.

Sabitzer spoke earlier this year about how he was content at Old Trafford after his deadline day move.

He told The Mail: “Whatever happens in the summer, we will see. I had to make a quick decision in January. I was focused on this, it was clear it is just a loan until the summer. I take every game as it comes.

“I’m very happy to be here. I will give 100 per cent. I am very happy to be part of this team, this amazing club, and I feel very welcomed. I am very happy at the moment.”

Sabitzer ended the season with an injury and missed out on the FA Cup final. However, he was not expected to be a starter.

And that’s the dilemma for United. Sabitzer was a useful player, but only a rotational option. He did provide useful squad depth, but if he wishes to play on a regular basis, he might not find that opportunity at Old Trafford, and nor might he at Liverpool either.

This is likely a situation United explore late in the transfer window again, if there is still money left in the budget, and if Sabitzer remains available.
