Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been crowned September Player of the Month for the Red Devils, following a month full of goals for the Brazilian.

The former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is the club’s top goalscorer this season with four goals for the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were also nominated for the award but it is the £70 million midfielder who has claimed the award.

However, the award going to the 31-year-old has seemingly caused confusion amongst the Manchester United fanbase and it is hard to argue with the people who don’t believe he deserved it.

Dalot’s performances

One man who may well feel aggrieved about being snubbed is Dalot. The Portuguese right-back came into the side following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s injury and has performed well, at least in September.

Wan-Bisska suffered a hamstring injury so the former FC Porto defender was brought back in as first choice he acclimatised well as he had to feature as a left-back at times.

Dalot stifled Bukayo Saka and Kaoru Mitoma during his games against these electric wingers, despite United being on the wrong end of two defeats.

Despite being outmuscled by Wilfried Zaha for Galatasaray’s equaliser on Tuesday night – in the month of October – Dalot has been consistently superb for the Red Devils this season and should have been given the award.

Casemiro award

The award given to the midfielder may well be due to his goalscoring exploits, although this isn’t really what a defensive midfielder should be praised for.

Casemiro has consistently been caught out during this season with opposition sides creating chances through cutbacks for midfielder runners who had broken into the box.

Muhammed Kerem Aktürkoğlu’s fine strike past Andre Onana was due to exactly this problem of midfield runners not being tracked.

Both Crystal Palace and Galatasaray managers said they targeted Casemiro, after leading their teams to wins.

The worries are growing amid Casemiro’s rather poor form, certainly defensively, and the hope will be that the award given to the Brazilian will give him a confidence boost.
