Manchester United man could now be out for the season – and only Erik ten Hag is to blame

Manchester United won against Luton Town on the weekend, but a severe dampener on the fixture was that Luke Shaw was injured in the process.

Shaw did not train all week and Erik ten Hag expressed doubts over whether he would make the game against Luton. Nevertheless, when the starting XI was revealed, low and behold he was the starting left-back.

However, the English full-back was taken off just before half-time by Erik ten Hag, who may very well have rushed the 28-year-old back into the first-team frame.

Now a further update has emerged regarding Shaw, which states that his injury may be a seriously bad one.

Luke Shaw could be out for the season

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Luke Shaw could now be out for the rest of the season for Manchester United.

It states that the England international may now miss the rest of the season after suffering a recurrence of a leg injury in last weekend’s win at Luton.

If found to be true, this will raise major suspicions about Ten Hag and why Shaw was rushed back so quickly.

The issue – this seems to be a regular occurrence. Not too long ago in 2023, it appeared that Lisandro Martinez was rushed back too quickly to the frame, which forced him onto the sidelines for a good while.

This now leaves the manager and his coaching staff with a burning problem for the rest of the season.

Erik ten Hag’s left-back predicament

With Tyrell Malacia injured, Alvaro Fernandez having been sold, and Shaw now injured – Manchester United do not have a left back.

This likely means that Diogo Dalot will have to be moved there for the remainder of the campaign, which is a real shame with him thriving on the right.

Ten Hag probably only has himself to blame, not with the decision of not purchasing a left-back, with that seemingly out of his hands, but with the decision to start Shaw despite the fact he probably wasn’t at full capacity.

Now he, and United, will pay the price.
