Manchester United needed a win over Istanbul Basaksehir to go to nine points in the group and get nearer to booking a Champions League knockout place.
And predictably enough, United lost 2-1 in Turkey, after headline grabbing wins over PSG and RB Leipzig.
It makes qualification to the knockout stages less certain. There is a risk United could end up falling through the trap door to the Europa League.
On that note, United made an awkward error on social media, adding the #UEL tag on a post for the UEFA Europa League, instead of the #UCL for the Champions League.
This was the type of small social media error which embarrasses fans, and if another club made it, we would be laughing at them.
Instead the joke is on United, and on a night like this, not many fans wanted to see the funny side.
United have now lost two games in a row and have a tough match upcoming against Everton on Sunday.
There are big debates ongoing over manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future, and several fans minds are already made up that a new boss should be brought in.
With just seven points out of 18 in the league, it is understandable. And now with inconsistency now blighting the Champions League campaign too, it’s right to be very concerned.
