Manchester United make decision on Tom Heaton contract extension as Luton show interest

Manchester United have made a decision on the future of goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Tom Heaton‘s two-year contract was set to expire on June 30. The deal he signed in 2021 contained an option for a third year.

The Athletic report Manchester United have now triggered the extension, signing Heaton up for a third year.

However, there is no guarantee Heaton will be a Manchester United player when the 2023/24 season kicks off.

Tom Heaton future

Manchester United see Tom Heaton as only a back-up, and the former England international may not be satisfied with this for much longer.

The report from The Athletic claims Heaton ‘wants to play’ and there is interest from newly promoted Luton Town and Hull City.

Heaton played two first team games for Manchester United last season, and served as David de Gea‘s back-up.

He then suffered an injury in early April, which saw him slip behind Jack Butland as third choice. Butland has now left the club with his loan deal expiring, he has signed for Rangers.

David de Gea is expected to sign a new contract, but it has not been announced.

The Athletic add that Manchester United are considering a move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
