Manchester United look to accelerate Aaron Wan-Bissaka's departure to reunite Ten Hag with Sergino Dest

Manchester United are looking to accelerate Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s departure in order to reunite Erik ten Hag with Sergino Dest.

After the former Ajax manager’s reign at Old Trafford started with back-to-back crushing defeats, which leaves the Red Devils bottom of the Premier League for the first time since August 1992, the Dutchman wants reinforcements.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Reds are pushing forward with plans to find a potential suitor for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 24-year-old, who was signed from Crystal Palace for £50m three years ago, doesn’t possess the technical qualities to become a vital part of the blueprint and philosophy Ten Hag wants to instil at Old Trafford.

The former England Under-21 international has been an unused substitute in both of United’s chastening Premier League defeats with Diogo Dalot seemingly currently in charge of the right-back berth.

Sport report: “United have defined their strategy to accelerate Dest’s arrival in Manchester.

“The English club has accelerated in recent hours the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, also a right back, to be able to convince the American. Ten Hag is optimistic and confident.”

The report states that Barcelona are willing to sell the 21-year-old for £16.8m, or on loan with an obligation to buy clause included in the deal.

The 17-time USA international played 38 times under Ten Hag at Ajax, scoring two goals and providing six assists, before signing for the Catalan giants in 2020 for £23.8 million.

Barcelona’s need to sell players has been well documented throughout the summer. An agreement is in place with Manchester United to sign Frenkie de JongThe Athletic report, however the player has so far resisted a move, amid salary still owed to him by the Spanish club and his reluctance to forego Champions League football.

Dest was an unused substitute in Barcelona’s La Liga opener, which saw De Jong come off the bench for the final half hour in the 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the Nou Camp.

Ten Hag is intent on bringing in the right characters and seemingly familiar faces to help get his seemingly daunting Manchester United rebuild off the ground, and it looks like interest in Dest will intensify if or when Wan-Bissaka is moved on.
