Manchester United youngster Matej Kovar’s superb run on loan at Sparta Prague is continuing.
Matej Kovar may be out of sight on loan in the Czech Republic, but his recent success deserves some attention.
The 22-year-old signed for Sparta Prague on a season long loan and the young goalkeeper has firmly established himself as a regular starter.
Sparta Prague’s 2-0 win at the weekend has moved the team to the top of the league, after rivals Slavia Prague slipped up, drawing their game 1-1.

Kovar moves top of the league
Matej Kovar’s Sparta Prague have now won nine games in a row to move to first place in the Czech top flight, currently two points clear.
They have won 12 of the last 13 games, with the one match they didn’t win in this span being a draw. Since signing, Kovar has only suffered defeat once.
That was against title rivals Slavia, who Sparta face next weekend in a crucial match at the top of the table.
There is lots of football left to play this season, but the Manchester United loanee is picking up great experience, somewhat more enjoyable than his previous loan spells at Swindon Town and Burton Albion.
Kovar is under contract at Manchester United until 2025. It’s very possible Sparta attempt to sign him permanently in the summer, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.
Manchester United’s goalkeeper situation heading into next season is currently uncertain. Kovar is a dark horse to add to the mix.
His current season is expected to be extended with the European under-21 championships where he will represent Czech Republic this summer.
He is up for the challenge, telling iSport: “It’s great that there are still so many games left until the end of the season. As a goalkeeper, you don’t put much physical strain on yourself, it’s all about your head. It’s challenging to concentrate for ninety minutes.”
