Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood on fire in 12-0 win on Copa del Rey debut

Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood is having a better time in Spain than his teammates are in Manchester.

Manchester United lost 3-0 to Newcastle United, crashing out of the Carabao Cup in what was ridiculously miserable fashion at Old Trafford.

The heat is certainly on now for Erik ten Hag. After the Manchester derby loss, now the cup embarrassment – it’s safe to say that some are now beginning to think his job is on the line.

One player that certainly won’t care is Mason Greenwood. He just had his best game by far in his new team colours.

Mason Greenwood thrives in 12-0 victory

The Manchester United loanee had his best game in a Getafe shirt so far as they travelled to CF Tardienta, who are in a very low league of Spanish football.

Naturally, it was always going to be a romping, and the La Liga side certainly did not hold back.

They put 12 past a helpless Tardienta side, with Greenwood starting from the off.

The English forward scored two in 59 minutes, both with his left peg which we knew from his days at United he was ever so competent with.

Yes, of course, the opposition was very weak – but it is gutting to see Greenwood succeeding when we are quite the opposite.

Some things are bigger than football…

Naturally, though, Greenwood has done this to himself.

If the club were to keep and play him, the backlash would’ve been absolutely ridiculous. It was the correct, albeit difficult, decision.

Still, with the forwards not firing and goals a rarity at Old Trafford this season, you can’t help but wonder what could have been at United for Greenwood.

He’s made his bed – now he has to lie in it, but it’s the club who are severely suffering from the repercussions.
