Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri has been working hard at the gym in an attempt to put weight on, reports The Athletic.

The 19-year-old joined Championship side Birmingham City on a season-long loan back in August in what was the Tunisian international’s first loan move away from Manchester United since joining the Red Devils from Monaco in 2019.

After slowly being integrated into John Eustace’s Blues side, Birmingham’s number six has started eight of the last nine games and heads into the World Cup in Qatar primed to play a starring role for Tunisia.

Having started Tunisia’s warm-up win against Iran, United’s number 46 could be handed his World Cup bow against Christian Eriksen’s Denmark tomorrow.

The second tier of English football is arguably one of the most physical and competitive leagues in European football, but Hannibal has repeatedly shown throughout his career that he’s never going to shirk a 50-50 tackle.

The talented all-action midfielder relishes the physical battle and he’s already amassed four yellow cards this season.

But while the teenager possesses an array of technical qualities that saw him tipped for stardom at a very early age, the 19-time Tunisia international needs to be able to dominate teams physically as well.

Despite establishing himself as a regular in Eustace’s starting line-up, Hannibal isn’t resting on his laurels and has reportedly been attempting to bulk up behind the scenes.

The Athletic report: “Hannibal has been trying to put on weight to aid his physical development, which has proven a challenge.”

The Tunisian, who could be one of the breakout stars at the World Cup, is loving his time in Birmingham and he’s even set himself homework to watch BBC drama series Peaky Blinders ‘to help get to grips with the local accent’.
