Manchester United youngster Amad has been named in the Championship team of the week.

The teenager scored a superb goal in Sunderland’s victory over Birmingham City on Friday night, getting one over on fellow loanee Hannibal.

Amad’s goal ended up being the decider in a 2-1 victory, and it was a special one, curling the ball around the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

The whizkid was named man of the match, having landed both of his two shots on target, and provided the assist.

Amad named in Championship team of the week

The 20-year-old was named in the Championship team of the week, courtesy of his strong performance.

He has three goals now in his last five games, beginning to make a real impact, and the break for the World Cup comes at the wrong time for him.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray had said last month he was looking to find the best tactical system to harness Amad’s talent, and he looks to have found a way to get the best out of him.

This is the type of progress Manchester United want to see from the Ivorian, and it is great to see him beginning to click.

He has won over the Sunderland fans, and he needs to keep up his form when the league returns to action and carry it into 2023.

With United boss Erik ten Hag declining the option to utilise Facundo Pellistri, there is likely to be a squad spot on the right wing up for grabs, providing he can enter next summer with some momentum and impress the manager.
