Manchester United linked Boubacar Kamara praised after impressive weekend display
Manchester United skipped on the opportunity to sign Boubacar Kamara in January, with the midfielder set to become a free agent.
The Athletic had claimed United were monitoring Kamara’s situation at the end of last year, along with several other Premier League sides.
The defensive midfielder did his prospects no harm at all with a strong display against Monaco at the weekend, even in a 1-0 loss for his side.
Kamara made more tackles (5) than any player on the pitch, and made 91 touches, the highest of any midfielder.
He also completed 90 per cent of his passes, completed three dribbles, and made seven ball recoveries, per FotMob.
This was the 22-year-old’s most complete performance since the transfer window closed, despite his side being undone by a second half goal.
He was praised by French newspaper La Provence, who wrote, ‘Kamara was everywhere’, while fans voted him as their highest rated performer in Sunday’s match.
Marseille are not quite giving up on keeping hold of the soon to be free agent, who has allowed his contract to run down.
Clubs president Pablo Longoria told Ouest France: “It’s my responsibility. I have been at the club since August 2020, I assume my responsibilities, especially with Kamara’s situation. Until the end, the last word is not said. We continue to have conversations, we proposed different possibilities.”
A bargain for somebody
Kamara will be a shrewd signing for whoever lands him. At 22, he is a very talented defensive midfielder, good on the ball and off the ball in terms of breaking up play.
FBRef.com reports Kamara is the top ranking midfielder for successful off-ball pressures in Ligue 1 this season, with 41 per cent.
United have so much work to do to rebuild and reshape this squad, that snapping up Kamara on a free will allow the club to spend more ambitiously elsewhere.
He likely won’t be the only midfielder United need, its clear just one addition won’t cut it, with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba among the players in the position who could be let go.
If Kamara is not signed, then there is a strong chance he could be lining up for another Premier League team next season.
