Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich and Germany forward Leroy Sane, according to the Mirror.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag was hoping that his new club would reunite him with former Ajax star Antony this summer.

But the Dutchman’s former club have seemingly priced the twenty-time league champions out of making a move for the Brazilian during the current transfer window.

Regardless of Anthony Martial being ruled out of the Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion or the uncertainty continuing to surround Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, the 52-year-old was keen to bolster his forward line.

Sane, who spent four seasons with United’s fierce rivals Manchester City, moved to Bayern in the summer of 2020.

Since arriving in Bavaria the 26-year-old has won six trophies including back-to-back Bundesliga trophies, but he hasn’t been a guaranteed starter since returning to his homeland.

The 45-time Germany international who started his career with Schalke has started 40 Bundesliga games since making the switch to the German giants.

But with Sadio Mane arriving at the Allianz Arena, Sane’s chances of establishing himself as a regular under Julian Nagelsmann has proven even trickier.

In Bayern’s first two matches of the 2022-23 campaign, Sane has played 37 minutes and come off the bench on both occasions – scoring once and providing an assist.

From 91 matches for Bayern, their number 10 has 25 goals and 28 assists to his name. Sane won two Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad and scored 39 goals and provided 46 assists for the Citizens from 145 matches.

Having joined City for £37m from Schalke, Pep Guardiola’s side sold the German to the Spaniard’s former club for an initial £44.7m that could rise to £54.8m.

Sane wouldn’t necessarily be an automatic starter under Ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams but he would certainly provide our forward line with a dimension.

He possesses the pace, trickery and final product to become a huge asset, but reports from Germany claim that Bayern don’t want to lose him this summer, and United are yet to make an approach.

The German has already shown his qualities in the Premier League prior to suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Ten Hag would have hoped that the Manchester United hierarchy could have landed Antony this summer, but with that deal looking increasingly unlikely Sane looks to have been identified as a potential plan B option.
