Manchester United hope for injury boost v Brentford, new signing has chance to make return

Manchester United are set to assess the risk element of playing Sergio Reguilon against Brentford this weekend in a must-win game.

Erik ten Hag’s side have lost 6 of their 10 games in all competitions this season and the pressure is beginning to build on the former Ajax manager.

Sofyan Amrabat has had to feature at left-back since he joined the club this summer but Sergio Reguilon may well be returning soon.

Manchester United are in dire need of left-back cover following injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia and the former Tottenham Hotspur left-back Reguilon is needed.

Reguilon to be assessed

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, United will assess the fitness of Sergio Reguilon to see if he can return for Saturday’s game, which was originally when the defender was set to return.

United are crying out for more options at full-back with Amrabat struggling to offer the attacking quality that someone like Shaw and Reguilon would offer the left-hand side of United’s attack.

According to the report, Reguilon was not involved in team training at United’s Carrington training complex on Monday but he has conducted individual sessions on the grass as he continues his recovery from an apparent hamstring injury sustained in the win at Burnley on September 23.

The importance of Reguilon’s return to the first team

The Spanish left-back has had a promising start in a United shirt but that start ground to a halt when the defender suffered an injury at Turf Moor.

A return for Reguilon would see Marcus Rashford return to a semblance of his best form as a full-back, who can run up and down the flanks and offer attacking threat, may well bring the best out of the Englishman.

The Spaniard had begun to build a nice relationship with Rashford before his injury and the hope will be that the former Sevilla man returning would see Amrabat finally move into midfield, his preferred position.
