Manchester United have scouted PSV forward Cody Gakpo several times

Manchester United have scouted PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo several times this season according to the Mirror.

Red Devils scouts have analysed the 22-year-old, who has been a standout performer in the Eredivisie, on a number of occasions this season.

The Dutch international has scored 13 goals and registered 13 assists from 33 matches across all competitions this season.

Domestically, Gakpo has seven goals and 12 assists from 18 Eredivisie games.

United’s interim boss Ralf Rangnick instructed the club’s scouting department to have a closer look at Gakpo and he was watched most recently in the Dutch giants’ 1-0 Europa League victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv, in which he netted the decisive goal.

With Manchester United’s forward options likely to reduce in the summer, the Reds may target replacement signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Edinson Cavani looks set to leave the club on a free transfer alongside Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard.

Cristiano Ronaldo may seek a new challenge only a year after returning to Old Trafford if we fail to secure Champions League football.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner isn’t going to stick around and play Europa League football at the age of 37 when he is the Champions League’s all-time top goalscorer.

Mason Greenwood will not be considered for selection for the foreseeable future and Anthony Martial will return to the club after his loan spell with Sevilla.

The PSV academy graduate signed a contract extension last month, extending his deal until 2026. The Dutch international has one goal for his country to his name from four caps.

At the age of 22, Gakpo has his best years ahead of him and his ability to play across the forward line could make him an appealing option for United.
