Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams targeting big 2023

Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams is targeting a big 2023 after a frustrating six months for the 22-year-old.

The Manchester United Academy graduate is yet to feature under Erik ten Hag having been unavailable due to injury.

In the build-up to United’s last game before the World Cup break against Fulham, the former Ajax manager revealed that the England Under-21 international would return to team training the following week, and will form part of the travelling party that will head for camp in Cadiz.

United’s number 33 will be hoping to get some much-needed game time in the two friendlies against La Liga sides Cadiz and Real Betis.

Having missed United’s Tour 22, Williams hasn’t played since May when he was out on loan at Norwich City.

Williams made 28 appearances for the Canaries during his season-long loan at Carrow Road.

The youngster, who can play either at left-back or right-back, has made 50 appearances for the Red Devils, the last of which came on the final day of the 2020-21 campaign at Wolves.

While it will be difficult for Williams to usurp Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia at left-back, an opportunity to become Diogo Dalot’s understudy could present itself in January.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka deemed surplus to requirements by Ten Hag- unless a right-back is signed in the January transfer window, Williams could find himself as United’s second choice right-back and providing cover to Dalot.

However, if Ten Hag opts to bring in a new right-back come the new year, Williams could well be allowed to go out on loan and get some games under his belt.

Williams has posted on his Instagram story a cryptic image which indicates his battery levels are charging ahead of making a comeback in 2023 after a frustrating second half of 2022.
