Alejandro Garnacho was a surprise starter in Manchester United’s win over Sheriff Tiraspol.
While the match against the Moldovan minnows presented itself as an opportunity to rotate, Erik ten Hag had previously given little indication he was ready to make the change.
Thankfully he did, because Garnacho was a breath of fresh air, and fully justified his starting spot.
Garnacho, 18, was voted as man of the match by Manchester United fans in response to his successful first start for the club.

Manchester United fans vote Alejandro Garnacho man of the match
Garnacho won the Manchester United man of the match vote conducted by the club’s official website.
United won the game 3-0, with goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The man of the match polling results are below…
- Alejandro Garnacho: 31 per cent
- Cristiano Ronaldo: 24 per cent
- Christian Eriksen: 22 per cent
- Bruno Fernandes: 5 per cent
- Casemiro: 4 per cent
- Diogo Dalot: 4 per cent
Garnacho played 79 minutes in the win, and came close to scoring just before coming off, hitting a shot just over the bar.
Former star Paul Scholes spoke highly of Garnacho after the game, commenting that he reminded him of a ‘young Cristiano’.
There is clearly a lot more to come from Garnacho, last night showed he belongs on the big stage, and was not daunted by the pressure.
