At the weekend, there was little point selecting a man of the match in the defeat to Aston Villa, nobody deserved it.

Last night in the Carabao Cup tie, Manchester United supporters were spoiled for choice thanks to a terrific display at Old Trafford.

There were four different goalscorers, with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay on the scoresheet.

This was the most goals United have scored in a game under Erik ten Hag’s management, a step forward the team needed to take.

Marcus Rashford was handed the man of the match award by Sky Sports after the final whistle.

But the result of Manchester United’s official fan poll revealed a different winner, with supporters making a different selection, and Rashford down in third.

Second half substitute Alejandro Garnacho won the highest percentage of the vote.

Garnacho provided two assists after coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute, with United trailing 2-1. He was lauded as ‘sensational’ by the Sky Sports commentary team.

The Red Devils eventually won the game 4-2, reaching the Carabao Cup fourth round where the team will face Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in December.
