Manchester United fans spotted something concerning about Kobbie Mainoo at full-time v Bayern

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo came off the bench for the final 10 minutes against Bayern Munich in midweek.

18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo came off the substitute’s bench against Bayern Munich, to try and rescue a lost situation.

It was too much for Mainoo to turn the game around, however, the teenager gave a good account of himself, completing 100 per cent of his passes.

This was Mainoo’s first appearance since the defeat at Newcastle. He has sat out the last two matches against Chelsea and Bournemouth, an unused substitute in each.

Kobbie Mainoo bandage spotted

At full-time when the final whistle blew, Kobbie Mainoo was spotted walking off at Old Trafford with a bandage on his knee.

During the game the bandage was just about visible, but mostly obscured due to his sock.

At the end of the match he had rolled down his sock, making it fully visible.

This appears to be a new development, with no sign of a bandage on his knee on show in his first game of the season against Everton at the end of last month.

Why is Kobbie Mainoo wearing a bandage on his knee

Kobbie Mainoo suffered an injury in pre-season against Real Madrid. Manchester United confirmed this was an ankle injury so it is not related.

This bandage on his left knee appears to be a new issue, and while just there for support, indicates he is nursing a minor issue.

This may explain a lot, why Kobbie Mainoo’s game time has reduced since his initial burst of three games in a week in late November and early December.

He has played just 10 minutes out of the last possible 270 minutes, with Erik ten Hag using him more sparingly.

This is sensible, especially considering the long injury lay-off Mainoo had after his pre-season injury. He also saw his 2022/23 season end in March due to an injury.

Manchester United must manage him carefully, despite the demands on the first team, which is why the move for Sofyan Amrabat was important, to protect Mainoo from being overplayed.

You need only look at Barcelona and Spain’s Gavi, who has just suffered a torn ACL after accruing 10,000 minutes early in his career.
