Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has quickly re-established himself as a starter for the club.

A fortnight ago there was a real storm brewing around Marcus Rashford, after his own ill-discipline saw him miss the FA Cup clash against Newport County.

Fortunately there was no harm done, other than to Rashford’s reputation, but Manchester United handled it swiftly and effectively, and the forward has gone straight back into the first team.

Rashford scored five minutes into his recall against Wolves in a 4-3 win, and has played a role in victories over West Ham, and at the weekend against Aston Villa.

How Marcus Rashford fared against Aston Villa

Marcus Rashford did not score or assist in the 2-1 win at Villa Park, but he was a real threat on the counter attack and played a part in Manchester United’s victory.

The highlight for Rashford was a driving run through the middle in the first half, before he passed to Alejandro Garnacho, whose cross to Rasmus Hojlund was cut out for a corner.

Rashford did pose a direct threat, showing a desire to attack the Villa goal when he got a chance.

He completed more dribbles (four), than any player on the pitch. Rashford had one shot on target, and was unfortunate to see two more blocked.

England boss Gareth Southgate was in the stands and he will have liked the focus he saw from the Manchester United forward.

Erik ten Hag substituted Rashford in the 75th minute for Scott McTominay as part of a tactical switch, which ended up winning the game.

Rashford sends message and Manchester United fans respond

Rashford sent a message on Instagram, showing how pleased he was to contribute to another Manchester United win.

Manchester United fans were quick to respond to Marcus Rashford’s post, offering words of encouragement after watching his performance.

One wrote: “Good game Marcus, goals will come. The attitude was right, the fight was there.”

Another responded, “Good work Marcus,” with a third fan writing: “We believe in you.”

Further messages included: “Keep proving them wrong,” and “Bro you destroyed that defence.”

Another fan wrote: “You cooked today bro, love how you playing the second half the season. beating ur man and now looking for the final pass. keep it up baller.”

Some noted how difficult he made it for Villa’s defence, writing: “Matty cash’s nightmare”, and “You had him on smoke today.”

These messages will give confidence to Rashford, who has had a personally disappointing season so far, which has begun to improve in recent weeks.
