Mason Greenwood was a notable omission from United’s travelling squad to Barcelona.
Along with Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and James Garner, the youngsters were not chosen. In the last round Chong and Greenwood came off the bench against PSG.
They used it to their benefit last night by producing a superb performance for United’s under-23s.
The Red Devils beat Newcastle 5-0 away from home.

Greenwood scored one and provided one assist. His goal was a fantastic curling free-kick from 30 yards out, reminiscent of David Beckham.
It highlighted another element to the prodigious young attacker’s game. Days earlier he came off the bench in United’s first team win over West Ham.
Tahith Chong, Nishan Burkart (2) and an own goal made up United’s goals along with Greenwood’s strike.
This was just United’s under-23’s second win in 12 games, with everything coming together and clicking perfectly.
