Manchester United supporters were able to watch a straightforward and routine win for the first time this season.
Wouldn’t it be nice if every match was like this? Sadly, most opponents will play with more spirit and more ambition than Crystal Palace did on Tuesday night.
Nonetheless Manchester United dispatched Palace well, going 3-0 up within the first hour, before making a raft of substitutions including forgotten man Donny van de Beek, and 19-year-old debutant Dan Gore.
There were plenty of reasons to be encouraged about the performance, especially with two blossoming partnerships.

Amrabat and Casemiro
Manchester United fans have waited a while to see more Sofyan Amrabat in action after his drawn-out summer move from Fiorentina.
Amrabat began at left-back, before moving into midfield for the second half for 15 minutes before he was substituted off.
For the brief spell they shared in midfield, they were dominant together. Casemiro even got forward in this time to provide an assist by delivering a cross to Anthony Martial.
Casemiro is a proven top class player, but there has been well-considered concern this season that he has been overworked in United’s overrun midfield in the opening weeks of the season.
Adding in a player of Amrabat’s quality makes Casemiro’s job simpler. Amrabat is confident on the ball, goes looking for it, and embraces the physical battle. He’s an all round player who will prove a bargain.
Their pairing will be absolutely crucial this season, especially in the tougher matches away from home.

Dalot and Pellistri
It was very encouraging to see the way Diogo Dalot and Facundo Pellistri worked together down Manchester United’s right side. It was on this flank where United provided the biggest threat, by far.
Dalot provided the assist for the first goal after some good work from Pellistri, and the pairing were a menace all night.
Pellistri in particular was tireless with his work rate and tracked back well to help Dalot out too.
With Antony out of action currently, Pellistri has a real chance for a run of games on the wing, and could forge a strong partnership with Dalot.
This is a partnership which can be a big part of United’s future long-term. If they can seize their chances while Antony and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are out, they will set themselves up for a lot more opportunities later down the line.
