Manchester United fans are seriously worried after one player’s dismal performance v Copenhagen

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane had a game to forget against Copenhagen in the 4-3 defeat last night.

Erik ten Hag has made a few peculiar decisions lately and one had looked to be his curious preference for Jonny Evans over four-times Champions League winner Raphael Varane.

We may have just caught a glimpse of why. Evans suffered an injury against Copenhagen and Varane came on in his place.

Sadly, Varane did not have a good game at all, and Manchester United fans are worried.

Raphael Varane involved in three of Copenhagen’s goals

The first goal conceded by Manchester United saw a low shot trickle through Raphael Varane’s legs. It was unfortunate, but you would have liked to think he would have blocked it.

Minutes later a handball was awarded, after the ball had ricocheted off Varane and only Harry Maguire’s arm. It was a mess. It was a very harsh decision, but neither player covered themselves in glory.

The worst came for the winner. Varane was trying to play the ball out the back, along with Maguire, and they ended up giving the ball away. Copenhagen scored 10 seconds later.

The former Real Madrid defender’s performance offered a hint as to why he has not been starting lately. He is just not playing very well.

Manchester United fans react

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Varane has downed tools for sure. What was that pass/clearance.”

Another said: “Varane passing was awful and his positional play, He’s not the same player.”

A further comment read: “Varane is absolutely smoked. Space Jam monster stole his ability.”

Another concerned fan wrote, “Varane is no longer that guy”, with a fifth comment saying: “Varane was shocking.”

One outraged supporter added: “That was such a bad performance from Varane honestly I question if he should ever even wear the shirt again.”
