Whisper it quietly. Marcus Rashford might just be back.

We all know Marcus Rashford is a streaky player. Once he starts scoring goals, it’s hard to stop him.

The world witnessed this at the start of 2023 when he returned from the World Cup with a point to prove and scored at a prolific rate, ending up with 30 goals for the season.

The problem is, this season he has struggled to get going in front of goal.

Rashford has only one goal to his name, which came six weeks ago. He has looked to be lacking confidence.

A goal for England may just be the catalyst Marcus Rashford needs to get his season up and running.

Selected as a starter for England against Italy, Rashford scored a vital goal to put the Three Lions 2-1 up in the second half.

The goal was vintage Rashford. Jude Bellingham set England away on a counter attack, supplying the Manchester United man, who cut inside, and rifled a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

It clearly lifted his confidence, he attempted another effort at goal minutes later.

Considering Rashford’s unhappy memories of the last time England played Italy at Wembley at Euro 2020, this goal will have meant a lot.

England won the game 3-1, with Harry Kane netting twice, after Italy had taken an early lead through Gianluca Scamacca.

Manchester United need Rashford to return full of confidence. You wouldn’t bet against him scoring against Sheffield United this weekend, and then going on a real run.

One supporter wrote: “Marcus Rashford is BACK with a BANGER.”

Another added: “Marcus Rashford is back, be scared”, while a further message read: “Ladies and gentlemen, Marcus Rashford is back.”

A fourth message read: “Yes Rashford needed that goal for his confidence,” and another added: “Marcus Rashford needed that goal. Hopefully it gives him the confidence he needs to kick on this season!!”

If Marcus Rashford is scoring, then Manchester United are very often winning. United as a team have struggled to score goals this season, and it is vital he finds his form from last season. His goal tonight is a very encouraging sign.
