England faced off against Denmark on matchday two of the Euros on Thursday and it was a disappointing 1-1 draw.
Gareth Southgate’s squad selection during the Euro 2024 has already been under fire and after failing to beat Denmark, it’ll continue to be questioned.
As he did against Serbia, Southgate selected Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold in the centre of the park for England.
After a poor performance in his previous outing in midfield, Alexander-Arnold was even worse against Denmark and looked completely out of place and it cost England.
But even when he was replaced, Southgate still snubbed Manchester United’s prized asset Kobbie Mainoo, opting to bring on Conor Gallagher instead.
Now after the game, United supporters have been reacting to the decision from Southgate to snub Mainoo, and they’ve all said the same thing.

Manchester United fans react as Kobbie Mainoo is snubbed for England
United fans couldn’t believe that Trent was playing ahead of Mainoo as he once more looked appalling in midfield.
One United fan tweeted during the match: “Trent is consistent I see, why is he playing and Mainoo on the bench, Southgate is a joke.”
“Playing Trent Alexander Arnold OR Connor Gallagher in midfield when you’ve got Mainoo sitting on the bench is insane. Southgate is clueless man”, wrote a second fan.
One fan even displayed Trent’s entire stat list and questioned how he’s playing ahead of Mainoo.
“HOW has Mainoo been benched for England again!? Gareth Southgate doesn’t deserve a young CM of this talent.. choosing a RB over him smh”, another added.
Some fans were even glad that Mainoo didn’t have to play in that game: “This has been one of the most embarrassing performances I have ever seen & I am just truly grateful that Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t been subject to it.”
Another added: “I’m glad Mainoo isn’t starting because he would have been blamed for everything”.
A final fan wrote: “This has been one of the most embarrassing performances I have ever seen & I am just truly grateful that Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t been subject to it.”
How bad Trent Alexander-Arnold was for England
In the centre of midfield, it isn’t so much that Trent is bad, as he is a good footballer. The real problem is that he just isn’t a natural in the role and looks lost when played there.
His long-range passing was excellent at times, but aside from that, he offers very little, particularly off the ball.
Meanwhile, Gallagher is the opposite, where he enters and plays chaotically which makes it impossible for England to retain possession.
With this in mind, it’s shocking that Mainoo isn’t being selected to start for England with his qualities quite clearly missing. However, as some fans mentioned, it may be a good thing he isn’t having to play in this terrible England side.
