Manchester United man of the moment Scott McTominay almost had a very memorable night in Spain with Scotland.
Earlier this year Scott McTominay led Scotland to a famous victory over Spain with both goals in a 2-0 Euro 2024 qualifying win.
This time around Scotland travelled to Spain knowing a victory would seal qualification, and Scott McTominay almost secured it.
McTominay scored a sensational curling free-kick, only to see it chalked off by VAR due to an incident in the box.

McTominay goal ruled out changed everything
Who knew Scott McTominay could take free-kicks? He is often the ‘water-carrier’ at United, with more flashy names taking the set pieces.
He is one of Scotland’s top stars, their leading qualifying scorer, but nobody expected him to take a shot when lining up a dead ball on the side of the box.
Probably inspired by former Red Devils ace David Beckham, whose documentary he said gave him belief he could lead a late comeback against Brentford last weekend, McTominay curled his effort over everybody and straight into the top corner.
It was one of the memorable Scotland moments, giving his side the lead away in Spain. Until a controversial refereeing decision chalked it off.
McTominay looked heartbroken at seeing his rare free-kick goal disallowed, through no fault of his own. One of his teammates was claimed to have committed a foul, although watching Scotland fans were not convinced.
Scotland later succumbed to two late goals, with Spain winning the match 2-0. Scotland can still qualify for Euro 2024, but the group is finely poised and there is work to do, with Norway closing in and pushing for a qualifying spot.
This was a night which could have been so much better, but McTominay did himself, his country, and Manchester United proud.

Another added: “Can we just agree Scott McTominay is the greatest player in the history of association football now?”
A third wrote: “Even if that goal is disallowed, McTominay needs to start for the next #MUFC game, no question.”
One comment read: “McTominay is in the form of his life,” with another echoing: “McTominay is in crazy form.”
Another joked, “The only conclusion is this is a global conspiracy to stop Scott McTominay from winning the Balon d’Or.”
