Manchester United fans have been reacting to David Beckham’s documentary, with many not happy about one moment.
During the new documentary titled ‘Beckham’ on Netflix detailed the career and life of David Beckham. An entire episode was dedicated to the aftermath of the 1998 World Cup when Beckham was sent off against Argentina.
The aftermath saw unprecedented hatred and death threats sent to Beckham, and Glenn Hoddle’s comments on the matter have rubbed many the wrong way as he threw the Manchester United winger under the bus.
“It’s cost us. It’s cost us dearly and we are absolutely distraught. It’s a bitter, bitter pill to take again, and we are absolutely distraught tonight but very proud at the same time.”
The interviewer at the time then asked him again if the red card was the reason for the loss, to which Hoddle continued, “of course it has. I’m not denying that.”
This has left Old Trafford fans outraged, with many taking to social media with their views…

Glenn Hoddle was wrong to throw Beckham under the bus
Fans on X have had their say on the event which happened 25 years ago.
One wrote: “Watching the first episode of the #Beckham documentary and I’m fuming all over again. Hoddle completely threw him under the bus during the World Cup and after the red card. Disgusting.”
A second shared this sentiment: “I can’t believe the shit that Beckham had to go through for that sending off. Completely thrown under the bus by Hoddle. Talk about carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.”
Another fan pointed out it “wasn’t even a red either.” Which is something Diego Simeone agreed with saying “Absolutely not” during the documentary when asked.
One point made was that Sir Alex Ferguson would never have done that to his players: “Alex Ferguson is a manager who knows how to protect his players. Glenn Hoddle didn’t even try to protect Beckham, literally put all the blame on him.”
Ferguson different to Hoddle
Many might have previously lumped the two managers together given Beckham had fallen out with both. However, the treatment from both was quite different.
This is something the Inter Miami owner’s mother touched on in the documentary as she said, “We’d been used to a manager like Alex Ferguson who never spoke about his team.”
It may have been a while since these events, but clearly the Beckham family haven’t forgiven Hoddle, and nor should they.
