Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is set to join Ligue 1 side Marseille on a season-long loan deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 28-year-old will join Marseille on loan, but there is mandatory buy clause inserted in the deal if the French giants qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The former Villarreal man hasn’t featured in either of the Red Devils opening three Premier League games of the season.
United’s number three found himself as the club’s fifth-choice centre-back under new manager Erik ten Hag following the arrival of the Dutchman’s former Ajax starlet Lisandro Martinez.
Even when the former Ajax manager decided to drop his captain Harry Maguire, it was World Cup winner Raphael Varane who came into the side for the 2-1 win against bitter rivals Liverpool.
Despite playing under the 52-year-old during pre-season, Bailly didn’t form part of Ten Hag’s plans for this season.

Bailly’s yet to make a competitive appearance for Manchester United in 2022, his last outing came against Burnley at the end of December under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Bailly will be hoping to impress in France where he will be reunited with former Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez.
The Ivorian was Jose Mourinho’s first Manchester United signing having joined the club six years ago from the Yellow Submarine.
But injuries and competition for places stifled the all-action defender’s progress at the Theatre of Dreams.
But he remains a formidable defender on his day, and he needs a run of games to prove his form and fitness. He’ll also play Champions League football this season with a move to the Stade Velodrome.
