Manchester United take on Juventus this evening in a vital Champions League clash.
After a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture, and a 0-0 draw at home to Valencia, United need to get back to winning ways. The problem is, Juventus are many people’s favourites for the competition and they outclassed Jose Mourinho’s men last time out.
The travelling party for United’s latest clash sees plenty of the usual faces. And that could be the problem. After all, with at least two of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez set to start, there is considerably less spark on the bench.
Tahith Chong was among the substitutes first time round. But the young Dutchman is not part of United’s latest squad and Mourino could come to regret that.
United may need a late goal to settle this clash if, as expected, Mourinho plays things tight. Sanchez could make the difference, as could an in-form Martial. But having a wild card on the bench has worked wonders for United down the years.
Some will argue Chong should have earned minutes last month. Either way, he should have been given a place on the bench tonight. He offers far more attacking threat than practically all United’s alternatives and simply needs Mourinho’s trust to prove that.
