Manchester United are heading for an injury boost against Everton this weekend.

Even with a squad as big as Manchester United’s, injuries have managed to ravage the club’s season.

Erik ten Hag has not had a first choice XI available all season, with various injuries impacting his selection from defence, midfield, to attack.

Last weekend against Manchester City, Manchester United were without Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial, and Rasmus Hojlund.

There may be some good news on the horizon, with one big name player pushing hard for a comeback this weekend.

Harry Maguire close to return

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has missed the last two matches with an injury, the FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest and the Premier League match with City.

According to The Mail, Harry Maguire is doing everything he can to make a swift return to the side.

The report states that while there is no official confirmation of the defender’s status, Maguire “is pushing through the pain barrier to try and make a return to the side after missing the last two matches through injury.”

There are no further updates on other potential returns. The one Manchester United fans really want to know about is Rasmus Hojlund.

Maguire would go back into starting line-up

Harry Maguire would go back into the Manchester United starting line-up if he is fit enough to play.

Victor Lindelof is expected to be required at full-back, with United looking for a partner for Raphael Varane.

Jonny Evans started alongside Varane against City, but could not complete the game, with Ten Hag admitting he played through injury. His status ahead of this weekend is unclear.

Maguire has stepped up this season with Lisandro Martinez missing most of the campaign. He ended last season as third choice despite the Argentine’s absence, but has regained the trust of his manager and the coaching staff, and appears to have flourished without the pressure of the captaincy.
