Manchester United consider summer move for Nordi Mukiele

Manchester United are considering a summer move for RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele, report German outlet Fussball Transfers.

United are claimed to be one of four clubs monitoring Mukiele, along with PSG, Atletico Madrid, and while Bayern Munich are said to be outsiders – although a move for Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui is far more probable.

The interest from United is said to be the most advanced, with the report stating: “Manchester United in particular have put out feelers and want their interest to result in a formal offer in the near future.”

Who is Nordi Mukiele?

1) Mukiele plays at right-back for RB Leipzig and signed for the club in 2018 from Montpellier, a deal overseen by Ralf Rangick.

2) His current contract expires in 2023, meaning he could be available for a knockdown price this summer.

3) This season Mukiele has made 37 appearances, scoring twice, providing five assists. He has 145 total apperances for Leipzig.

4) Mukiele, 24, has one cap for France, called up into the Les Bleus squad last September.

5) United were linked to Mukiele back in early December soon after Ralf Rangnick took over, with 90Min.com reporting he would be an option.

Right-back continues to be a problem position for Manchester United, with neither Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka providing a single goal or assist this season.

Mukiele’s attacking numbers are not prolific either, but it is clear United need a fresh approach, and neither of the current options have been good defensively this season.

The Bundesliga website describes Mukiele as ‘physically powerful and tireless’, attributes United’s lacklustre defence needs.

At 24, Mukiele needs a new challenge in his career after four years at Leipzig. This past weekend he provided two assists in Leipzig’s 4-0 win over Augsburg, earning a 9.28/10 rating from WhoScored.

Due to his expiring contract, Mukiele would not be a particularly expensive deal, leaving funds available to be spread across to other positions.
