Manchester United clash with Liverpool at risk, fixture chaos could strike Ruben Amorim

Manchester United’s trip to Anfield could be postponed on Sunday.

The Reds are meant to travel to Liverpool on Sunday for a game that favours our rivals.

Liverpool are currently atop of the Premier League and Champions League standings after a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign.

It’s been a completely different story for Manchester United. Erik ten Hag was dismissed a month ago before Ruben Amorim became head coach.

Amorim has not enjoyed the happiest of starts at Old Trafford, with his side going to Anfield after losing their previous four matches across all competitions. United’s poor form has led to the team being positioned 14th in the league table.

The Portuguese coach has had to adapt to English football this year, which includes having a fixture on Boxing Day, which United lost against Wolves.

Things need to improve on the pitch if United are to get a result against league-leaders Liverpool on Sunday. It would also be helpful if the freezing weather eased off.

Why Liverpool vs Manchester United could be postponed

Amorim’s side are now facing the strong possibility of having Sunday’s game postponed as the weather threatens to cause havoc with the Premier League campaign.

According to the Evening Standard, fears are growing that Sunday’s fixture between Liverpool and United will be postponed.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside. To make matters worse, snow and freezing rain is expected in the area throughout the weekend, with public transport users advised to expect disruption.

Fans are advised to stay safe and bring warm clothing if the match goes ahead.

Only time will tell how many fixtures will be impacted by the difficult weather conditions.

More fixture uncertainty for Ruben Amorim

It’s a rarity for Amorim to get a full week of training with his players due to United’s busy fixture schedule.

United have an FA Cup encounter coming up and they’ll be back competing in the Europa League again later this month.

But, if the Liverpool game is postponed, it will need to be squeezed in elsewhere.

No estimate can be made on dates for potential postponements until a later date.
