Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been training abroad to recover from injury, according to the MEN.

The 29-year-old has missed all three of Manchester United’s matches following the resumption of club football after the September international break.

The world’s most expensive defender picked up a thigh injury in England’s 3-3 draw against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

The MEN report: “Maguire had been training in Portugal at the Quinta do Lago resort to recover from a thigh strain that has sidelined him for the last three games.”

Erik ten Hag is likely to provide an injury update, which could include Maguire, in today’s press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League clash against Omonia Nicosia.

ESPN report Maguire is ‘confident’ he will be able to prove his fitness before Gareth Southgate names his World Cup squad on October 20.

The former Leicester City man travelled to Portugal after being in the stands to witness Manchester United get battered 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium on 2 October.

While not in attendance for Thursday’s 3-2 win against Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus, Maguire returned in time to attend United’s 2-1 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

United players are reportedly required to be in attendance for home games unless they have permission to be elsewhere but are not expected to go to away games.

The MEN adds that the £80m signing has been a dressing room presence in Manchester United’s last two Premier League games.

Maguire hasn’t started a Premier League since the Red Devils were beaten 4-0 by Brentford in mid-August.

Since then, the 48-time England international has made just one start across all competitions at club level, and that came via the 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in our Europa League opener.

Following the defeat to the La Liga side, Maguire had a very brief came in Moldova against Sheriff Tiraspol.

But with Victor Lindelof starting the last two games following Raphael Varane’s ankle injury against City, Maguire realistically currently finds himself as United’s fourth choice centre-back.

United have 10 more games before the domestic season is halted for the World Cup, which starts on November 20.

Southgate will be hoping Maguire is fit enough to return to action soon and get some much-needed game time to prevent arriving in Qatar short of match fitness.
