Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes determined not to repeat mistake with post-match comments

Bruno Fernandes has delivered a stark warning to his Manchester United teammates following their 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa.

Goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker gave Unai Emery’s Aston Villa a two-goal lead at Old Trafford and things were looking very bleak for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United.

However, a remarkable second-half fightback meant United turned the game around and the Red Devils won 3-2 thanks to a double from Alejandro Garnacho and an emotional winner from Rasmus Hojlund.

It was one of those games that could be the kickstart to something special but that is not the first time something like that has been said, the Red Devils need to ensure they build on this.

Fernandes’ warning

Speaking after the game to Amazon Prime Sport, United captain Bruno Fernandes has delivered a warning for his teammates before their trip to the City Ground to face a revitalised Nottingham Forest side.

Nuno Espirito Santo has only recently taken over the East Midlands side but Forest seems to be going through a mini-renaissance, so the Red Devils will have to be aware of this.

When asked how the team can build on such a morale-boosting victory, the United captain was keen to keep their feet firmly on the ground: “I don’t want to speak about it. We had too many post-match interviews where we spoke about this.

“It’s better to just go game by game”.

Despite how brilliant United were in the second half against a Villa side that remains eight points clear of them in the Premier League table, caution has to be applied.

Fernandes’ role

Whatever fans or people in the media say about the former Sporting midfielder is irrelevant, Fernandes, alongside the United front three, was vital to turning that game around.

It was Fernandes’ pass that freed Marcus Rashford down the left for United’s first and it was also the Portuguese midfielder’s determination to push for a winner when he took the corner quickly that led to Hojlund’s goal.

He may have bad games for the Red Devils but he never gives up and has been a more than worthy captain for United this season. Forest this weekend will go a long way to deciding where the Red Devils are, at this moment in time.
