Manchester United attempt to hijack Lyon deal to sign Tyrell Malacia

Manchester United are attempting to hijack Lyon’s deal and sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia for Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are hoping to oust the Ligue 1 side to the signing of the 22-year-old, in a deal worth in the region of £13million.

According to Sky Sports, Ten Hag scouted the Netherlands international during his time in charge of Ajax.

Malacia shares an agency – HMC Sports Management – with fellow Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong, who is also itching closer to a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The same agency also has Manchester United duo Donny van de Beek and Victor Lindelof on their books.

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen has confirmed that Malacia’s move to the Theatre of Dreams could be imminent if the left-back agrees to the switch, following the two clubs reaching an agreement for his transfer.

Arnesen told 1908NL: “The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell.

“If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.”

Lyon had been negotiating for Malacia and had agreed a deal with the Eredivisie giants, but Manchester United have seemingly gazumped them with a higher offer at the last minute.

Malacia made 50 appearances across all competitions for the Rotterdam-based side last season and he looks set to become United’s first signing of the Ten Hag era.

He will likely compete for a spot with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles, but given that Ten Hag has seen his compatriot up close and personal, Malacia could be in the driving seat and become United’s new first-choice left-back.

The five-time Netherlands international is a graduate of the well-renown Feyenoord academy and has played 136 times for his boyhood club since making his debut in 2017.

Ten Hag has only conducted two training sessions at Carrington but it looks like Manchester United’s transfer business has finally kicked into action.
